The Razer Kraken Ultimate has a sleek black plastic exterior with plush leatherette ear cushions that definitely catch the eye. The earcups are spacious, allowing for good airflow, which is a plus. Yet, while the headset looks modern and is packed with features, it does carry weight. For some, this heft might lead to fatigue over a long gaming marathon.
The adjustable headband ensures that most users can find a secure fit, but once again, the weight can be a drawback for endurance wear.
Performance
In terms of audio performance, the Razer Kraken Ultimate excels. With its 50 mm custom-tuned audio drivers, you’ll get a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, translating to incredible sound quality across various game genres. The THX Spatial Audio feature creates a genuine sense of space in audio reproduction, allowing you to hear footsteps, gunfire, and environmental cues with incredible precision.
This is essential for competitive gaming where sound can give you the edge over your opponents.
Moreover, the microphone boasts noise cancellation, ensuring your voice comes through loud and clear, vital for team communication. That said, while it performs admirably, I found the microphone could use more flexibility for fine-tuning positioning, particularly for users who like to adjust on the fly during gameplay.
How It Handles Everyday Situations
- For intense gaming sessions, the cushioned ear pads provide comfort, though I found the weight can become noticeable when playing for several hours straight.
- If you use it for streaming or voice chat, the noise-cancelling mic does a great job of blocking out external sounds.
- In a busy household, the RGB lighting customization lets you express your personality, making it a fun conversation starter.
- When connecting to multiple platforms or devices, the robust cable ensures you won’t lose connection easily.
Ease of Use & Installation
Setting up the Razer Kraken Ultimate is straightforward; plug it in, and you’re good to go. The 3.5 mm jack and USB give you flexibility for different gaming setups, whether you’re using a PC or console. Daily operation, including volume and microphone controls, is efficiently handled through intuitive buttons on the earcup.
Cleaning is also easy, as the materials used permit effective wiping down to maintain hygiene after long sessions.
